What is The Murph Crossfit Workout?
Well, the Murph Crossfit Workout is a special workout to test your physical readiness to the extreme.
If you have not come across the term previously, this workout is named after Lt Michael Murphy USN. He was a serving officer, killed on active duty in Afghanistan in 2007.
He was a great believer in training the body to be ready for maximum endurance, without the need for special or expensive equipment.
Murph Crossfit
Crossfit gyms are a franchise which is spread out around the world. The USA alone has around 1500 such gyms. There is a fairly large percentage of members who are ex-military personnel. The gyms are mainly aimed at people who do not wish to use special equipment in their fitness regimes. This reflects the ideas behind the original Murph Crossfit Workout. Some observers say it gives the training a holistic edge.
The workout is indeed used by the ex-military people to bring comrades together and remember why they fought, and what for.
The Murph Crossfit is a reasonably simple workout to remember, but tough to complete.
It consists of the following
- A one mile run
- 100 pull ups
- 200 push ups
- 300 air squats
- A second one mike run
And, all while wearing a 20 lb vest!!!
You will see here that there is only very simple apparatus involved in the Murph.
What is The Murph WOD?
The Murph WOD is simply an abbreviation for the Murph Workout of the Day.
In the various Crossfit gyms around the world there are many WODs. Crossfit Gyms may do a different workout sequence each day. Each day therefore has its own WOD (Workout Of the Day). The Murph WOD is simply a day where the exercise pattern in the Murph Workout is adopted on that day.
As well as keeping participants fit The Murph Crossfit Workout does, however, have an ulterior motive.
Each year, culminating on Spring Break Monday in the USA, fitness fans can take part in a global challenge. This is based on the Murph Challenge. The idea is to complete the Murph WOD as many times as you can on that day. You will be in competition with a worldwide gathering of fitness buffs.
All times are recorded by the Murph Charity. Winners in the different categories are announced online after the day.
